Herbalife Beta heart UK: Oat Beta-Glucan, the 3 g Rule and What a Day Actually Costs
Beta heart is the one product in the Herbalife range built around a single regulated ingredient: oat beta-glucan. This guide sets out what is on the label, the only wording UK law allows anyone to use about oat beta-glucan and cholesterol, how many scoops that wording actually refers to, and what a day works out at here.
Quick answer: Beta heart Vanilla 229 g gives 1.5 g of oat beta-glucan per scoop and holds 30 scoops. The authorised health claim for oat beta-glucan is tied to 3 g a day, which is two scoops, so one tub covers 15 days at that intake. It is a food, not a medicine, and it is not a meal replacement. Mix one or two scoops with water, juice, or into a Formula 1 shake.

Add to basketWhat Beta heart actually is
Beta heart is described on the Herbalife GB label as an "oat beta-glucan powdered mix". It is not a meal replacement and it is not a protein shake. It is a low-calorie vanilla-flavoured powder whose job is to deliver a measured dose of one fibre: oat beta-glucan.
These are the figures printed on the GB label, not estimates.
| On the label | Per one scoop |

| Tub size | 229 g |
| Servings per tub | 30 scoops |

The 3 g rule, and the only wording the law allows
Oat beta-glucan is unusual. Most food ingredients cannot legally be linked to a disease at all. Oat beta-glucan has an authorised reduction of disease risk claim, which means the wording is fixed by law rather than written by a marketer. The authorised claim is:
"Oat beta-glucan has been shown to lower/reduce blood cholesterol. High cholesterol is a risk factor in the development of coronary heart disease."
Two conditions come attached. First, consumers must be told that the beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 3 g of oat beta-glucan. Second, the claim may only be used on foods providing at least 1 g of oat beta-glucan per quantified portion. Both are set out in Commission Regulation (EU) No 1160/2011, which continues to apply in Great Britain.
That is the whole basis of the product. Nobody, including us, can legally go further than that sentence, and you should be wary of any seller who does.
How many scoops, and how long a tub lasts
Two scoops is the 3 g dose
At 1.5 g of oat beta-glucan per scoop, two scoops gives 3 g, which is the daily intake the authorised claim refers to. Most people take both scoops in one drink rather than splitting them.
One tub is 15 days at that intake
A 229 g tub holds 30 scoops. At two scoops a day that is 15 days. At one scoop a day it stretches to 30 days, but one scoop is 1.5 g, which is half the amount in the claim.
Water, juice or into a shake
Herbalife's directions are to mix one or two scoops with water, fruit juice, or into a Formula 1 shake, once per day. In a shake it adds 50 kcal and 6 g of fibre for the two scoops.
What that costs per day here
Cost per scoop: see the price above and divide by 30
Cost per day at the 3 g intake, which is two scoops: see the price above and divide by 15
We sell the whole Herbalife range at or close to cost, which is what keeps that per-day figure where it is. Our Herbalife price list with cost per serving does the same arithmetic for every product in the range.
Beta heart or Fibre Concentrate? They do different jobs
This is the question we are asked most often about Beta heart, and the two products are regularly bought by mistake in place of each other.
Beta heart is a single-ingredient story: a measured dose of oat beta-glucan, with the authorised cholesterol wording above attached to it. Fibre Concentrate is sold as a general fibre top-up for people whose overall daily fibre intake is short, and it is not built around oat beta-glucan. If your reason for buying is cholesterol, Beta heart is the product the regulation points at. If your reason is simply that you are not getting enough fibre across the day, read our Fibre Concentrate review first.
For where Beta heart sits alongside the vitamins, minerals and other daily products, see our daily wellness products guide.
Taste, texture and the easiest way to take it
Beta heart is vanilla flavoured and thickens whatever you put it in, because that is what soluble fibre does. In water it is noticeably thicker than a tea or a squash. Two scoops in 250 ml of water is drinkable but the texture is not for everyone, which is why stirring it into a Formula 1 shake is one of the routes Herbalife lists on the label. In a shake it disappears into the body of the drink.
The other route is porridge, which handles the thickening naturally. Our Beta heart porridge recipe sets out one way to do it.
What Beta heart is not
It is food, not medicine. It does not treat anything, it is not a substitute for cholesterol-lowering medication, and nobody should stop or change a prescription because they have started taking a fibre powder. If you are on a statin or any other prescribed treatment, keep taking it and tell your GP or pharmacist what you are adding.
It also will not tell you whether you need it. As the NHS puts it, high cholesterol "does not usually cause symptoms" and "you can only find out if you have it from a blood test". The NHS guidance on high cholesterol is the right starting point, and a test through your GP or a pharmacy is the only way to know your numbers. Diet and activity are the foundation; a measured dose of oat beta-glucan is something you add on top, not instead.

Frequently asked questions
How much oat beta-glucan is in a scoop of Beta heart?
1.5 g per 7.625 g scoop, according to the Herbalife GB label. Two scoops gives 3 g, which is the daily intake named in the authorised health claim for oat beta-glucan.
How long does a tub of Beta heart last?
A 229 g tub contains 30 scoops. At two scoops a day, which is the 3 g intake, that is 15 days. At one scoop a day it is 30 days, but that is half the amount the claim refers to.
Can I mix Beta heart into a Formula 1 shake?
Yes. Herbalife's directions are to mix one or two scoops with water, fruit juice, or into a Formula 1 shake. Many people prefer the shake route because the powder thickens liquid, and the texture is easier to get on with in a shake than in plain water.
Is Beta heart a meal replacement?
No. At 25 kcal and 2 g of protein per scoop it is nowhere near the composition a meal replacement needs. It is an oat beta-glucan powder designed to be added to food or drink, not to replace a meal. Formula 1 is the meal replacement product in the range.
Will Beta heart lower my cholesterol?
The only claim anyone may lawfully make is the authorised wording: oat beta-glucan has been shown to lower or reduce blood cholesterol, and high cholesterol is a risk factor in the development of coronary heart disease. That effect is tied to a daily intake of 3 g of oat beta-glucan. It is not a promise about any individual, it is not a treatment, and it is not a replacement for prescribed medication. Speak to your GP about your own cholesterol.
Is Beta heart the same as Fibre Concentrate?
No. Beta heart delivers a measured dose of oat beta-glucan and carries the authorised cholesterol wording. Fibre Concentrate is sold as a general fibre top-up and is not built around oat beta-glucan. They are bought for different reasons.
Do I need a membership to buy Beta heart at this price?
No. The prices shown on this page are the prices anyone pays on this site, with no membership and no sign-up. The product is genuine Herbalife stock, shipped direct by Herbalife.
