Protein Intake Calculator for the UK, Counting Your Daily Grams

Most people guess their protein and get it wrong in both directions. Counting servings is quicker than counting food, and it is exact.

Quick answer: how do I count my protein?

Add up the stated grams per serving for what you actually drink. A Formula 1 shake made with milk states 18 g and Protein Drink Mix states 15 g, so those two together are 33 g. The calculator below does the totals.

Genuine Herbalife products, dispatched from the UK. Prices shown were taken from this shop on 31 August 2026 and can change.

What the numbers are based on

Product Protein per serving Cost per serving
Formula 1 shake, made with 250ml semi-skimmed milk 18 g £1.26
Protein Drink Mix 15 g £1.47
Protein Drink Mix Vegan 15 g £1.55
Tri Blend Select 20 g £3.07
Protein Powder, one scoop 5 g £0.62
High Protein Iced Coffee 15 g £2.43
Rebuild Strength 25 g £2.14

Formula 1 states 18 g when made with 250 ml of semi-skimmed milk. Made with water the protein is lower, because much of it comes from the milk.

That is the single most common mistake in counting a shake. The number on the tub assumes the milk goes in.

Reading the total sensibly

This counts what you get from these products only. Meat, fish, eggs, dairy, beans and pulses all add to the same total and are not in the calculator.

There is no single protein target that fits everyone, and we do not publish one here. Your GP or a registered dietitian can set one that fits you.

The NHS balanced diet guidance and the Eatwell Guide are the right starting points for where protein should come from in the first place.

Using the cost column

The cost column turns a nutrition question into a budget question. Two shakes a day is a monthly figure, not a one off.

If the total surprises you, change the mix rather than the habit. One scoop of Protein Powder at £0.62 adds 5 g cheaply.

Key points

  • Count servings rather than guessing, because every label states its grams.
  • Formula 1 states 18 g only when made with 250 ml of semi-skimmed milk.
  • Rebuild Strength states the most protein in one serving at 25 g.
  • Food sources count towards the same total and are not in the calculator.
  • There is no single protein target for everyone, so ask your GP or a dietitian.
