Herbalife Xtra-Cal UK: Calcium, Vitamin D and What Three Tablets a Day Cost
A Herbalife Xtra-Cal UK pot holds ninety tablets: three a day with meals, so a pot is a month. It is the calcium tablet in the Herbalife range. It does one narrow job properly, and not the job many buyers think they are buying.
Quick answer: Herbalife Xtra-Cal is a 90-tablet calcium supplement, taken one tablet three times a day with meals, so a pot lasts 30 days. Three tablets give 999 mg of calcium and 2.3 micrograms of vitamin D. At £14.81 on this store that is £0.49 a day, price checked 14 October 2026.

What Herbalife Xtra-Cal is
Xtra-Cal is a food supplement in tablet form, a pot of 90 tablets weighing 133 g. According to the Herbalife GB product label for Xtra-Cal (item 0020), the directions are one tablet three times a day with meals. Three tablets is the daily dose, so a pot is thirty days.
It is a mineral tablet built around calcium, with vitamin D, magnesium, zinc, copper and manganese alongside. Calcium is the bulk of it: 999 mg per three tablets, which the label puts at 125% of the RI.

The claim printed on the pot is that calcium is needed for the maintenance of normal bones and teeth. The bones half of that appears in the Annex to Commission Regulation (EU) No 432/2012 as "Calcium is needed for the maintenance of normal bones", and its condition of use is that the food be at least a source of calcium. At 999 mg a day Xtra-Cal clears that easily. The label also prints that vitamin D contributes to normal absorption of calcium, which is why the two share a tablet.
What Xtra-Cal costs per day in the UK
We sell the Herbalife range at or close to cost, which keeps the per-day figure where it is. A pot is thirty days, so the pot price divided by thirty is the daily cost, calculated below from the live price.
Cost per day at the label dose
Xtra-Cal, 90 tablets, three a day: £0.49 a day
Formula 2 Women’s, 60 tablets, two a day: £0.67 a day
Both together, as a daily pair: £1.16 a day
That is less per day than the omega-3 capsule, at £0.71 a day. Our Herbalife price list runs the same arithmetic across the range.
The vitamin D gap most Xtra-Cal buyers miss
Xtra-Cal is not a vitamin D supplement. Three tablets give 2.3 micrograms. The NHS guidance on vitamin D states that adults need 10 micrograms a day, and that everyone should consider a daily 10 microgram supplement during autumn and winter. Xtra-Cal covers 2.3 of those 10, so 7.7 micrograms still has to come from elsewhere. The 46% on the label is 46% of the 5 microgram reference intake printed on labels, not 46% of the NHS figure.
If somebody sold you a calcium tablet as your vitamin D, they were wrong. The vitamin D in Xtra-Cal is there to help you absorb the calcium, not to meet your daily intake.
That is not a fault in the product. A calcium tablet is allowed to be a calcium tablet. It is a fault in how it gets sold. If vitamin D is your concern, buy a 10 microgram vitamin D supplement. They cost very little, and we do not sell one, so there is nothing in this for us either way.
The NHS also sets a ceiling of 100 micrograms a day for adults. Xtra-Cal is nowhere near it, but if you are on a prescribed dose, add up every source before adding another.
999 mg of calcium a day, against the NHS figure of 700 mg
The NHS page on calcium puts the requirement for adults aged 19 to 64 at 700 mg a day, and says most people get all they need from a varied, balanced diet. Xtra-Cal’s three tablets carry 999 mg before anything you eat.
The same page says 1,500 mg or less a day is unlikely to cause harm, and that doses above 1,500 mg could lead to stomach pain and diarrhoea. Put 999 mg of supplement on a dairy-heavy diet and you head towards that figure.
If you eat dairy most days, you probably do not need this
The NHS lists milk, cheese and other dairy among the main calcium sources, with fortified bread and fish eaten with the bones. A diet containing those regularly clears 700 mg without help.
If you eat no dairy, this is a cheap way to fill the gap
Fortified soya drinks and curly kale do the same job through food. The NHS notes spinach does not count, because the body cannot digest all its calcium.
If a clinician told you to raise your calcium, show them the pot
Show your GP or pharmacist the label figures, not the brand name. They can say whether 999 mg a day on top of your diet is right for you.

What Herbalife Xtra-Cal is not
It is not a multivitamin: six nutrients, where a multivitamin carries far more. It is not a vitamin D supplement, for the reason above. It is not a meal replacement or a weight-loss product, and it will not keep you full, because three tablets weigh almost nothing.
It is not a medicine. It is a food supplement, it treats nothing, and it is not a treatment for osteoporosis or any diagnosed condition. If you have been prescribed calcium or vitamin D, this does not replace it. The label prints no allergen statement and no vegetarian or vegan status, so we will not guess.
Xtra-Cal and Formula 2 do different jobs
This is the mix-up we see most, and it wastes money in both directions. Formula 2 is the multivitamin: 60 tablets, two a day with meals, in separate women’s and men’s versions. Xtra-Cal is the calcium tablet: 90 tablets, three a day, six nutrients.
A multivitamin will not give you 999 mg of calcium, because no sensible tablet is big enough to hold it. That is why a separate calcium tablet exists. Our Formula 2 guide covers both.
The two are routinely taken together, five tablets a day. Read both labels, add up the overlapping nutrients, and ask your pharmacist if you take medication.
Who should skip Xtra-Cal
Anyone already hitting 700 mg of calcium from food: a tablet on top adds cost and nothing else. Anyone whose real concern is vitamin D should buy a 10 microgram supplement instead. Anyone on prescribed calcium should wait until their GP has seen both labels. We would rather tell you to buy nothing than sell a second source of the same mineral.

Ninety tablets, in a pot weighing 133 g. At one tablet three times a day that is a 30-day supply, so a pot covers a month.

One tablet three times a day with meals, as printed on the Herbalife GB product label. Three tablets is the daily dose every figure on this page uses.
