What Protein Bake Mix is, and what it replaces
It replaces part of the flour in a recipe. You take a pancake, muffin or cookie recipe, swap some of the flour for the mix, and the finished item carries more protein than it did before.
Because it has no flavour of its own, it does not fight whatever you are baking. According to the Herbalife GB product label the mix is built on whey protein concentrate and calcium caseinate, with gluten-free whole oat flour, whole egg powder, a raising agent blend of potassium hydrogen carbonate and disodium diphosphate with rice flour, and gluten-free wheat dextrin. The raising agent is already in there, which is why the pack's pancake method needs nothing but powder and 30 ml of liquid.
The label declares milk and egg as allergens and carries gluten-free, vegetarian and no-added-sugar statements. No sugar is added to it.
Herbalife Protein Bake Mix UK: the label figures
Everything below is taken from the Herbalife GB Protein Bake Mix product label (reference pl-528k-gb), checked on 19 October 2026. The prepared columns are one 24 g serving made up as the pack instructs, with 30 ml of semi-skimmed milk or water.
| Per | 100 g dry mix | Serving with semi-skimmed milk | Serving with water |
|---|---|---|---|
| Energy | 1563 kJ / 371 kcal | 104 kcal | 89 kcal |
| Protein | 44 g | 12 g | 11 g |
| Carbohydrate | 30 g | 9 g | 7 g |
| of which sugars | 2.6 g | 2.1 g | 0.6 g |
| Fibre | 7.0 g | 1.7 g | 1.7 g |
| Fat | 7.4 g | 2.3 g | 1.8 g |
| of which saturates | 2.6 g | 0.9 g | 0.6 g |
| Salt | 1.4 g | 0.4 g | 0.3 g |
The same label lists six minerals per 100 g of dry mix: potassium 1358 mg (68% of the reference intake), calcium 418 mg (52%), phosphorus 1042 mg (149%), manganese 1.3 mg (67%), selenium 27 µg (49%) and molybdenum 67 µg (134%). Those percentages are for 100 g, not for a 24 g serving, so a single bake delivers roughly a quarter of each.
Sugars are 2.6 g per 100 g of dry mix, so nearly all of the 2.1 g in a milk-made serving arrives with the milk, not the powder.
Why Protein Bake Mix counts as high in protein
UK nutrition claims are not marketing language. They have fixed numerical conditions, set out in the Annex to Regulation (EC) No 1924/2006 as retained in UK law. The Annex on legislation.gov.uk allows "high protein" only where at least 20% of the food's energy value comes from protein, and "source of protein" at 12%.
Run the dry mix against that. Protein carries 4 kcal per gram, so 44 g of protein accounts for 176 kcal of the 371 kcal in 100 g. That is 47% of the energy, more than twice the threshold. Nothing about that is borderline.
Fibre works the same way. The Annex sets "source of fibre" at 3 g per 100 g or 1.5 g per 100 kcal, and "high fibre" at 6 g per 100 g or 3 g per 100 kcal. At 7.0 g per 100 g the dry mix clears both. A 24 g serving carries 1.7 g, so the fibre in one bake is modest.

Buy Protein Bake MixWhat a bake actually costs in the UK
A 480 g tub at £30.72 divided by its 20 servings works out at about £1.54 for a 24 g serving. For that you get 12 g of protein in a pancake made with semi-skimmed milk, plus whatever the rest of the recipe brings.
The card at the top of this page fetches the live store price as it loads and recalculates the per-serving figure from it, so check there if £30.72 has moved. Either way the figure covers the powder only, not the milk or the rest of the recipe.

How to use it, starting with the pack method
Follow the label pancake first
The Herbalife GB label gives one method: mix 24 g of the powder, which is three tablespoons or two scoops of the 28 cc multi-scoop, with 30 ml of semi-skimmed milk or water. Do that once before you start improvising, so you know what the texture should feel like.
Cook it low and slow
Preheat a non-stick pan on a low heat, pour the batter in, spread it to the thickness you want, and give it two to three minutes until the underside is golden before flipping. Whey browns faster than flour does, so a high heat burns the outside while the middle is still wet.
Then swap flour in your own recipes
Start by replacing a quarter to a third of the flour and see how it bakes. Protein powders hold less water than flour, so an all-in swap usually gives you something dry and crumbly. Our Herbalife baking recipes guide runs through the ratios people land on.
Store it properly
Lid closed, cool and dry, as the label says. It holds egg and milk powder, so a damp cupboard will clump it.
What it is not, and who should skip it
- It is not a meal replacement. Formula 1 is formulated to replace a meal; Protein Bake Mix is not, and nothing on its label claims that. If you want a meal, you want Formula 1.
- It is not a shake. It contains raising agents. Mixing it in a shaker and drinking it is not what it was built for. For a drink, Protein Drink Mix is the product.
- It is not vegan. The label declares milk and egg. If you avoid both, this tub is not for you, and no amount of recipe tweaking changes that.
- It is not flavoured. Neutral means neutral. On its own it tastes of very little, which is the point, but do not expect it to carry a bland recipe.
- It is not worth buying if you do not bake. An unopened tub in a cupboard is £30.72 doing nothing. Buy it if there is a recipe you already make every week that you want to change.
Recipes on this site that it fits
The mix earns its keep in things you were going to bake anyway. These four already take a dry powder, so they take it with the least fuss.
- Chocolate protein brownies, where the cocoa covers any change in texture.
- Blueberry protein muffins, which stay moist thanks to the fruit.
- Chocolate chip protein cookies, if you like a firmer cookie.
- Chocolate protein mug cake, the fastest way to test a ratio without wasting a tray.

Frequently asked questions
How much protein is in Herbalife Protein Bake Mix?
The Herbalife GB label gives 44 g of protein per 100 g of dry mix, and 12 g in one 24 g serving prepared with semi-skimmed milk, or 11 g prepared with water.
How many servings are in a tub of Protein Bake Mix?
Twenty. The tub holds 480 g and the label serving is 24 g of dry mix, which is three tablespoons or two scoops of the 28 cc multi-scoop.
What does Herbalife Protein Bake Mix cost per serving?
At the store price of £30.72 for a 480 g tub, a 24 g serving works out at about £1.54. That covers the powder only, not the milk or the rest of the recipe.
Is Protein Bake Mix a meal replacement or a protein shake?
Neither. It is a baking ingredient containing raising agents, meant to replace some of the flour in a recipe. Formula 1 is the meal replacement and Protein Drink Mix is the drink.
Is Herbalife Protein Bake Mix gluten free and vegetarian?
The label carries gluten-free and vegetarian statements, and uses gluten-free whole oat flour and gluten-free wheat dextrin. It is not vegan, because it declares milk and egg.
Can I replace all the flour in a recipe with it?
Not sensibly. Protein powders hold less water than flour, so a full swap tends to bake dry and crumbly. Replacing a quarter to a third of the flour is the usual starting point.
Is Herbalife Protein Bake Mix high in protein?
Yes, on the dry mix. 44 g of protein per 100 g accounts for 176 of the 371 kcal, which is 47% of its energy, and the Annex to Regulation (EC) No 1924/2006 sets the high protein condition at 20% of energy.
